SMA Events
Elite sporting events that the Directors of Sports Marketing Australia have secured for Coffs Harbour and other regional destinations include:
Crusty Demons Australian and NZ tours
SMA developed and implemented a regional event placement and marketing strategy for the International Crusty Demons Australian and NZ tours from 2005 - 2007. The tours have sold over 350,000 tickets from 35 shows across Australia and NZ, making it one of the most successful touring events in Australia.
SMA was responsible for securing the venues and implement media partnerships and sponsorships, generating significant revenue and value in kind support from media, government and venues.
SMA provided the ticketing platform for each tour, managing the point of sale outlets, on-line sales and front of house operations at each show. SMA also developed a club membership and have subsequently sent out on-line surveys, show alerts and other marketing initiatives.
Surf Life Saving
Surf Life Saving is an iconic Australian sport with roots stretching back over 100 years. Surf Life Saving competition is intensely competitive and lies at the very heart of the sport.
Historically there have been inter-club championships up to and including the national level, but there has never been an interstate event as such.
SMA has worked with NSW and QLD Surf Life Saving Associations and the state government appointed events board to create and implement "Warriors on Water", a televised surf lifesaving event that pits state against state.
Wallabies Base Camp
For the past 5 years the Australian Wallabies Base Camp has been located in Coffs Harbour on the NSW Mid-North Coast.
Here the Wallabies come together as a team to prepare for their international playing commitments.
SMA, working with Coffs Harbour City Council and the business community, has set up and implemented the commercial strategy that makes the Coffs Harbour Base Camp possible.
This strategy involves the Wallabies participating with commercial partners in corporate golf days, luncheons and open training sessions. SMA also initiated and implements the direct charter fights for the Wallabies from their home base in Coffs Harbour to the destinations hosting Bledisloe Cup matches between Australia and New Zealand.
Rugby League Pre-Season Games
The National Rugby League in Australia operates a series of inter-club matches as a pre-cursor to its main NRL season.
SMA has secured a number of these matches to be played at the Coffs Harbour International Stadium. NRL teams participating in these matches have included Manly Sea Eagles, Canterbury Bulldogs, Sydney City Roosters and the Gold Coast Titans.
SMA has strategised and implemented commercial arrangements with the business community to mitigate the costs of these matches as well as putting in place the necessary operational and logistical arrangements.
ING Cricket One-Day Interstate Series
The ING Cup is an Australian Interstate one-day cricket series.
SMA negotiated for the first ING Cup match held outside of a major metropolitan city to be held at Coffs Harbour International Stadium. SMA completed both the commercial and operational arrangements necessary for this ground-breaking event. The success of this event has led to it being repeated.
Australian Touch Titles
Touch, while it does not enjoy the high public profile of elite professional sport such as rugby league, attracts large of numbers of participants and accompanying partners. As a result Touch has the inherent ability to generate substantial economic benefits for a host community.
SMA has secured the ongoing presence of the Australian Touch Titles at Coffs Harbour International Stadium over a period of six years generating millions of dollars for the Coffs Harbour community and consolidating the Australian Touch Titles as a “must do” event on the Australian Touch calendar.
Triathlon Australia – National Series
The 2003 Accenture Triathlon Series was hugely successful, incorporating the World Championships qualifying events, National Titles, Australian Sprint Championships and Australian Olympic Distance Championships.
Leading Australian and International triathletes competed for a prize pool valued at over $500,000.
Coffs Harbour held the 2004 Olympic Selection Trial (Elite only) and the Australian Sprint Distance Championships (Age Group).
